a better home screen for android will be good, though the notification bar is pretty useful + status light
Thanks,
I need it staring me in the face.

long awaited update!

Major update coming for Android =) hohoho

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2008/12/...y-for-android/

Browser: Copy/Paste, (Hold the shift key, highlight the text with a drag or the trackball, release shift. Ta-da!), inline search (Find text on the page you’re looking at), support for the ultra hasty SquirrelFish javascript engine
Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) profile support, Bluetooth Remote Control (AVRCP) support
“Basic x86 support” - this is a bit ambiguous, but it implies that Android will be able to run (natively) to some extent on the processors used by most modern computers. While that theoretically opens the door to Android netbooks, it’s not clear what all this entails
“Input method framework, for soft keyboards and other on-screen input methods” with the ability for third parties to make their own onscreen keyboards.
Perhaps most notably (Hell, I’d do a drumroll if the title hadn’t already spoiled it): Video recording.

Complete list: "cupcake" development branch ‎(Android Open Source Project‎)

More android news rolling!

Android has free turn-by-turn navigation | Android Community

Android now has fully audible real-time turn-by-turn navigation with an application called AndNav2. This one is now only a public Alpha, but due to all the experience gained in AndNav1 this version is actually in a really solid state. AndNav2 is free, for the time being anyway.
Unlike Garmin services there is no monthly charge or need to download extra map pack upgrades. The only way they can maintain a free application is by placing ads into the applications itself and through donations. It’s a very small price to pay to keep from having to purchase this application.
Right now AndNav2 supports Contacts/POI/Address-Search and many more, but even the recently released free Text2Speech library by Charles L. Chen giving users fully audible turn-by-turn directions. AndNav2 is currently only available in the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, France, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Italy and Austria.

I thought Google Gears did that by caching browser pages offline although I haven't tried it.
